Several leading airlines have launched more flights to South Korea while some have just beginning a new route. The country has been enjoying its Tourist boom to the full, and was expecting a further high number of arrivals, pre-North Korean attack on Yeongpyeong Island situated west of the Korean Peninsula. Even so, tourists are concerned at large if it is secure to get flights to Seoul, South Korea anymore? Or has anything changed given that the shelling of North Korea that left two dead earlier this week.
Although it’s too early to predict an average tourist’s reaction to the incident but reports indicate that no significant effect on tourism so far. The International meeting business at Korea MICE Expo 2010 this week, demonstrated confidence and strength, stating that the North Korea’s attack is absolutely nothing more than attention seeking tactic. At this occasion Maureen O’Crowley, Senior Director MICE advertising and marketing Tours at Seoul Convention Bureau stated:
The violence of the attack and the unfortunate death of civilians were seen here as a surprising move from the North Korean leadership. Unfortunately, skirmishes between the North and the South are absolutely nothing new and we have experienced many of them soon after the end of the Korean war. Any alter in the leadership of North Korea, any massive event organized in the south is usually accompanied by a reaction from Pyongyang just to show to the South that they are here!
The South Korean government has been beefing up security, to guarantee maximum safety and peaceful environment for tourists.
