New look Boeing 747 is unveiled
The eyes of the world’s media had been on Washington DC this week as the brand new Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental was showcased in front of a crowd of thousands.
The new 747-8 Intercontinental is the most recent in a lengthy line of Boeing 747 jets developed to carry huge numbers of passengers safely around the world. Considering that its launch in 1969, over 1,500 747s have been produced to a variety of different blueprints – each model a lot more hi-tech and comfy than the last.
The 747-8′s specification
The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental is the longest jumbo jet ever made and has much in common with the most recent Boeing style – the 787 Dreamliner. Typical components contain the engines and flight systems, whilst the new aircraft will be most energy-effective and environmentally friendly 747 yet thanks to its decreased fuel consumption.
From Seoul to Stuttgart
Over 33 orders for the new 747 Intercontinental have already been placed by Germany’s Lufthansa and Korean Air among other people. It is hoped that the new jets will start working on key routes as early as October 2011.
When asked about their newest purchase, Lufthansa’s Nico Buchholz seemed excited about the new jets saying:
“The 747-8 Intercontinental will be a great complement to our fleet, fitting nicely into the 400-seat category, improving our fleet’s eco-efficiency even further”
He went on to add, “as a launch customer, we are searching forward to welcoming this new aircraft to our fleet next year as it fits with our ongoing fleet modernisation and environmental efforts.”
“A world-class passenger experience”
At this week’s launch, Vice President of Boeings Commercial Programme Pat Shanahan summed up the new 747′s strengths by saying:
“As the only airplane in the 400 to 500-seat market, the 747-8 Intercontinental will give operators an airplane perfectly suited for lengthy, heavily travelled routes around the world”.
“The new 747-8 Intercontinental will set a new standard in economic and environmental performance, while offering a world-class passenger expertise.”
